Furyborn by Claire Legrand

Good evening everyone! Today I bring you a review I have been trying to wrap my head around. I read this book a few weeks ago, and I still find myself thinking about it! This IS my absolute favorite book that I have read this year so far. I know it will stay if not number one, near the top of my 2018 favorites. Reviews have been all over the place for this book, but if you’re a fan of High Fantasy, magic wielders, kick ass female main characters, and slow burn love stories, this is the book for you!

Here is the synopsis that I got from Goodreads:

When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed…unless the trials kill her first.

A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable–until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world–and of each other.

When I first got this ARC, I was super intrigued by the synopsis and surpassed all of my TBR’s that month to read it! With that being said, lets go ahead and get into the review:

This book is not for the weak-hearted. Throughout the book, I felt so invested in these characters lives, that when they wept, I wept, when they laughed, I laughed, and when they were in a fight for their lives my heart was pounding probably as fast as theirs. I loved how unpredictable this novel was, and it DEFINITLEY left me wanting more.

The world that this was set up in was remarkable. I absolutely loved the chapters switching back and forth between the two main characters. You will read about Rielle on a walk with her best friend Audric, and then a thousand years later the other character will be walking by a crumbling statue of him.

Overall, I really loved this book and I hope you all pick it up when it is released on May 22nd(I know I will be because that cover is just GORGEOUS!)

Obviously this is a 5/5 star book 🙂

*This ARC came in November’s Fairyloot*
